Special Olympics 2019 Polar Plunge

The Polar Plunge signature fundraiser is an exhilarating event held each winter to support Indiana’s Special Olympics athletes, where individuals and teams brave the elements by taking an icy dip to demonstrate their commitment to the cause. The Versailles Polar Plunge event includes activities ranging from costume contests to 5K fundraising races and the always popular “After Splash Bash” – a celebration following the Plunge event where participants are recognized and presented with awards.

Participants must raise a “bear” minimum of $75 ($50 minimum for students with a student I.D.) to take a daring dip into Indiana’s winter waters. Participants must be at least 12 years old on the day of the Plunge—those under the age of 18 must have a signature from a parent or guardian. All funds raised across Indiana by these events directly benefit more than 16,000 Special Olympics athletes throughout the state, giving them the means to train locally and compete at the state level in a number of Olympic-type sports.

For more information about the Polar Plunge, please For more information about the Polar Plunge, please call Greg Townsend 812-584-6861, or email to gregoryltownsend@yahoo.com.

Annual Food Growers 13th Annual Winter Conference

The Food & Growers Association in Southeastern Indiana was formed to respond to the need of farmers, parents and health professionals who see the connections between community health improvement, sustainable agriculture and a viable local economy in Southeastern Indiana. FGA is an initiative to build a sustainable local market for foods produced in and around Southeastern Indiana via education and networking. FGA is promoting a local food system to enable area farmers to market their products to individual consumers and institutional buyers including schools, hospitals, and restaurants.

The Food and Growers Association has been hosting its annual winter conference since 2007. The event features speakers and presentations for both growers of and eaters of great local foods. This is a day-long event that includes lunch and a vendor market. Our event gets bigger and better each year with over 100 attendees the last two years. It is always held the first Saturday in February. Don’t miss this education and networking opportunity. Farmers can meet other farmers doing new and interesting things on their farms or discuss the latest in marketing or ag technology. Eaters, meet the farmers who grow your food, learn about the newest gardening trends, and much more!

The 2019 Conference is Saturday, February 2.
